HTML

HTML stands for Hyper text Markeup Language

1) Hyper: In simplest terms, it means active. The word "Hyper" as part of HTML
  is simplar in context. It means that when a user is on the internet
  using a browser such as netscape navigator or internet explorer. he can go to any other place.

2) Text: Some part of the text in the document is hyper i.e it allow a user to go to
some other place

3) Markup: "Markup" comes from the fact that in order to create web pages, we will the be
typing in the text and then "marking up" the text. This may be additional text which is not
a part of the content but enhances the document.

4) Language: "Language" means that we are using a language with all its syntax. Note
that HTML is not a programming language.
